Good article. As the Community Manager for an online video site I completely agree with strategy 1. That being said a lot of small businesses are getting this wrong. Video slide shows (hello animoto), ads made for TV, and talking heads are not what people want to see online. Small businesses need to be more creative in order to be relevant in the online video space. Lastly, Flip HD is a great way to go, relatively inexpensive and easy to use.

We’re only going to really see local social networks in the bigger cities. Even then, small biz is just not very accepting of it yet.

This is a cogent and nicely put together post. I just would like to add that time and resources (human and otherwise) are two factors that small companies must take into account when engaging with the social media.

I believe that no social media strategy – no matter how advanced – can succeed without making an investment in those two crucial elements.
